Sketch-22

PSL TV

It was really only a matter of time, wasn’t it? Pineapple-Shaped Lamps, Wilmington’s favorite sketch comedy group, has tackled just about every medium conceivable in the past three years–but come 2014, they’ll make the jump to a place sketch comedy has flourished for decades: television. Thanks to a partnership with WWAY and their new CW station, Pineapple-Shaped Lamps is beyond thrilled to announce that [PSTV], a 100% PSL-produced and written sketch comedy show, will hit the airwaves January 4th, 2014.

Pineapple-Shaped Lamps was founded in 2010 by a group of comedy-loving nerds who just wanted to make you laugh. Nearly 4 years later, the goal is the same, but the original group of about 15 has blossomed into an organization of more than 40 people, all of whom are invested in providing Wilmington with the best possible comedy entertainment. Pineapple-Shaped Lamps has produced award-winning original works (Pineapple-Shaped Show, Best Original Production, Wilmington Theatre Awards 2013), two sketch series (TNL, PSL Presents), a radio show (PSL’s 30 Minute Comedy Hour), musicals (Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog, Cannibal! The Musical), and, most recently, a podcast (Pineapple-Shaped Podcast). Their work has been seen all over North Carolina and the east coast (Chicago, Miami, Myrtle Beach) and they were an
official selection of Sketch Week at 2013’s North Carolina Comedy Arts Festival. Their members have been featured individually on local stage, national and international television, and even on the big screen.

Pineapple-Shaped Lamps is now STOKED to take to the airwaves in January 2014.

PSL’s new TV show will bring audiences the same variety and madness that their live shows provide but, “the lighting will be much better and no one will forget their lines,” says head writer Zach Pappas. While the show is still in the planning stages, PSL president Wesley Brown promises that it will be “a mixture of brand-new material and revised classics” from their stage shows and that “any nudity shown will be tasteful–like something from a European movie.” The show will be 30 minutes long and air weekly on the CW, every Sunday at 2am–yes, you read that right, 2am. “We’re hoping to catch the crowd that just turned off “Saturday Night Live”,” continued Brown, “but isn’t ready to go to sleep yet–so college students, insomniacs, crack heads…basically the same sort of people who come to our live shows.”

So Wilmington…are you ready for the takeover? Pineapple-Shaped Lamps and [PSTV] are ready to conquer your television sets…and your hearts. Will you let them?
